OpenPilot CopterControl: Limited Production Runs

Jan 2012: The plan is that production of the CopterControl board will be suspended. In its place, an updated version known as the CopterControl3D is currently being designed by the OpenPilot Team. The next production run will probably be of the CC3D. No ETA at this time.

December 2011: A hardware component in the latest batch (none have been delivered to distros or users yet) is defective and the ALL CCs have to be reworked. (We would like to avoid our end users having to find this problem and send it back) So no ETA for a release at this time.

at this time, some boards are being sold at the global store http://store.openpilot.org/ – this is small amounts at a time as they are being reworked.
Some distros will be selling boards around mid december, so now is the time to check at your distro!

How to buy a CC board!

First, the CopterControl is not in commercial production so there is no supply=demand. This means that whenever the project does a limited production run, there has been 3, that the boards get "hand groomed" by the project before they are sent out to the distributors. If you want to buy one, you should do 2 things.
1) Monitor the Production Status page to find out when the boards are sent to your regional distributor.
2) Monitor the distributors website/store as this will hold the best info about when you can buy it from them.

The Team pays for all of this up front out of their own pockets, they are not a company, they are human beings like you and me who have day jobs and families and mortgages. So to keep this hobby alive, the project does limited production runs to help fund development in a very limited way. Distributors dont make a real profit off the boards, and the team makes about the price of a beer of each board which to date does not cover the expenses. So, the secret to getting a CC board? Waiting, reading and being in the right place and the right time. If you cant do those things, you might want to find a different FC to keep you busy until you do :)
